Globe and Mozilla PH present "Zamboanga goes Mobile, Open Source Style",

Some 150 tech-savvy individuals are expected to join the community meet-up organized by Globe Telecom and Mozilla PH in Zamboanga City on March 16 to introduce open source technologies which allow the creation of programs that the public can view, edit, and redistribute.

Dubbed "Zamboanga goes Mobile, Open Source Style", the event will enable developers to learn open source technologies and use various mobile products of Firefox, namely:  Firefox OS, Firefox Marketplace, and Firefox for Android to create value for their business and their users.

Firefox OS is free from the rules and restrictions of existing proprietary platforms making it accessible to all.  It is built using HTML5 and other open Web Standards.  With the HTML5 Firefox marketplace, developers are able to participate in an ecosystem that features the world's most popular apps and to create new, platform-independent offerings.  Firefox on Android, on the other hand, allows for superior web experience since it gives developers the flexibility to design, distribute, and charge as they see fit.

"We encourage a shared community approach to development through open source technology to provide an opportunity for developers, particularly students and young professionals, to be involved in a project that will benefit the IT community.  We want to help them hone their IT skills, and challenge them to bring their interest in technology into fruition," said Anne Michelle Santos, developer relations manager of Globe Labs.

Globe Labs has been supporting open source programs and Mozilla PH with their initiatives starting with the Software Freedom Day in Manila and Cebu to the Firefox OS Roadshow and Firefox OS App Day. Globe Labs is a fast-growing developer community of Globe Telecom striving towards creating revolutionary mobile innovations. Through this group, aspiring and experienced developers will have the opportunity and means to further develop their ideas and talents on mobile applications and be able to promote these inventions on a greater scale.

Mozilla PH, on the other hand, is a Mozilla-supported community initiative in the country formed to spread the use of open tools like Mozilla Firefox through relevant social interactions and fitting the software via localization.

The event will held at E-Learning Centre, Inc., 3F ZGU-II Bldg., Gov. Alvarez St. Zamboanga City from 9 am to 5 pm.  To know more, visit the Globe Labs website:  www.globelabs.com.ph <http://www.globelabs.com.ph/>  or the event website:  https://reps.mozilla.org/e/zamboanga-city-goes-mobile-open-source-style/
